Now that Fall is here we are really enjoying the outdoors. The days are cool, the mosquitos are making their way out and the sun is warm, but not blazing. I love taking my boys to lunch with their grandparents or downtown to see the fountains and daddy.
On the weekends we walk to a nearby school to use the playground and run the boys. It’s our favorite time of year and we love to make the most of it! Our newest tradition is Saturday morning breakfast! This is especially fun because we are trying new (or new to us) restaurants and getting the boys used to dining out. Now that Calvin is a little older and not totally demanding food first thing in the morning, it has made this task much easier! It’s one of the highlights of each week for me. We love eating together and we love playing together. And as it turns out, when families do this on a regular basis, the results are healthier habits!
Together Counts is a nationwide program inspiring active and healthy living. The principle behind the program is Energy Balance, which means balancing the calories we consume with the calories we burn. The website is full of ideas and action items to get families moving and eating together. Family meals are really important to me for many reasons, but did you know children that share family meals together are more likely to maintain a healthy weight? That’s pretty amazing if you ask me.
