Cesarean Awareness and a New Blog!

I can’t believe April is finally here! I have some really exciting things happening in the next month and I can finally share! If you have been following my blog since the birth of my son, you might remember that I had him via cesarean after 26 hours of very hard labor. You can read all about it here if you like. But this isn’t JUST about my birth story. This is about community.

April is Cesarean Awareness month and as I have written before, a startling 1/3 or more American women have had a baby delivered via C-Section. Before I was faced with my own Cesarean, I had a very narrow view of “these women” and in the past 2 years, I have been on a journey of healing and discovery.

There are many worthwhile organizations who are working to change the system to prevent unecessary Cesarean births in the United States and I commend them for their efforts. But today, I want to talk to the women who bear the scar. Today, I am announcing the upcoming launch of a new community for YOU to share your journey, find healing if you need it and help others who may need a shoulder to cry on.

Scars for Love will be a blog for Mothers who seek healing after Cesarean Birth. This blog is a labor of love and something that I have been wanting to provide for some time now. My vision is that we can share our stories, our resources and our grace to help others along the way! The website will not be a substitute for medical or psychological treatment as we are not licensed in that area. Rather, it will be a safe place to process our experiences and understand each other better.

During the month of April, I will be highlighting some amazing birth stories here on Lil-Kid-Things and come May 1st, Scars for Love will be live! In the meantime, if you have a story to tell, please fill out this form to let me know! And if you would like to stay connected elsewhere, you may follow us on Twitter and Facebook.

Scars for Love

I hope to see you there!

Scars for love is an inspired name – well done and also for the honesty to acknowledge that before your own, c-section you held narrow views of “these women”. It is both true and sad that this is all too common.

We wish you every success with your new blog and look forward to it’s launch.

Thank you for coming up with this! I think far too often women who give birth by c-section are thought not to have a “birth story” but guess what we do! I look forward to reading and I would be willing to share my 2 c-section birth stories!
